After being told to look into different types of movement and personal area to help improve my work and understanding of the idea of ‘movement’ i started looking at migration, territory and the wars that can come because of this.
Artist such as Anselm Kiefer use war as the main subject in his art work. The power behind peoples need for power of resources come through really strongly in his use of old war relics and manipulated iconic objects. His work gives off a calm relaxing feel to something that is violent and scary. Giving his work and the subject a vulnerability that you wouldn’t expect.
His use of installation work almost puts you into the past to relive a hazy version of the entrapping that our need and personal vulnerabilities have previously as a spices put us in. One of the most sticking pieces of his are his installations involving dead sunflowers and water. The use of his water for me is a double effect. The water in the work os super calm and relaxing almost making you forget the dark meaning of the work. To me it also shows the hidden depth to wars and history, just like the depth of the water, and the basic human need for water for life.
Though out all my research the same theme constantly comes up. Water/ Resources. Though out time we as humans have always moved and settled in areas where we have access to water and other items of importance. I want to develop these ideas further in my work.
