Duchamp’s String Room

When chatting to one of my tutors about my current work I was reminded of Duchamp’s string room where he filled a whole gallery with sixteen miles of string blocking off an entire gallery show and therefore making it impossible to view the work – The main focus of the art show. And the way Duchamp involves the idea of play into his work really makes me want to continue this work even if it just makes a space that is accessible to only a few and is just there for playing with.

I am really fascinated by the way the string (the material of the installation) doesn’t need to be the main focus of the installation but the effect it has on the space and the people with in it. Like Duchamp work effected the people that came to look at the work in the gallery show.
